How to Sort Your Mailing

There are a few places on the web that have good instructions for how to sort your mailing. Here are some that we have found worthwhile.

USPS Publication 49

Describes the entire bulk mail process. Chapter 6 is about sorting and has lots of pictures! This is a Portable Document Format (PDF) document and is big (2.7 Megabytes).

Quick Service Guide 630 Standard (A) - Presorted Letters

Another USPS publication. A two-page reference sheet that we always have nearby when packaging and traying (before we wrote our software, that is!).

How Much Time Will It Take?

One industrious Puritan should find it Easy to stick 400 labels in an hour. We know an organization that sticks 10,000 labels in one mailing! Once a year they get 20 or so people together and prepare their entire mailing in around three hours. They also use the occasion as an opportunity to catch up socially with their friends.
