Bulk Mailing: Who, What, Where, ...
- Who
- Anybody can apply for a bulk mailing permit.
- What
- Bulk mail rates are basically volume discounts. The US Postal
Service offers lower postal rates when you mail 200 or more
pieces at once.
- Where
-
When you apply for a bulk-mailing permit, you pick one post
office where you are going to drop off your mailing. You can
pick additional post offices, but you must pay the application
fee ($125) for each post office you choose. (Permits last for
one year.)
- When
-
Bulk mail is a lower priority than first class, so it is
processed more slowly. To be safe, you should plan for the
mailing to take a week to be delivered.
- Why
-
To save money! Instead of 33¢ for a one ounce piece you can pay
20¢ per piece for up to 3.3 ounces (13.3¢ if you are a
nonprofit). If you are a nonprofit that mails 3,000 pieces in a
year, the difference in postage amounts to nearly $500. See our
Postal
Savings Calculator to estimate the savings for your
situation.
- How
- Pick a post office, a payment type and get a
permit.
Print your
mailing and stick labels.
Sort your mailing
and bring it to the post office you have selected. The labels
you get from us will be presorted and downloaded to you.
